Description of this webinar:

Stepfamilies must forge relationships on a fundamentally different foundation from first-time families. Stepcouples launch into their new families longing for “love at last” and expecting “blending.” They often find themselves painfully divided on deeply emotional issues, facing “resistant” unhappy children, mired in conflicts over discipline, and struggling with constant differences in family cultures, not to mention tangling with ex-spouses. Because what works to meet these challenges is often very different from what works in first-time families, relying on our first-time family models leaves both stepfamily members and therapists lost in the weeds.

This webinar integrates four decades of clinical practice with a wealth of increasingly sophisticated research. Whether you work with families, couples, or individual parents, stepparents, children, or ex-spouses, Dr. Papernow will give you a map for navigating this complex territory and strategies for helping on three levels: psychoeducational, interpersonal, and intrapsychic/intergenerational.
